Custom orthotics and insoles in Canary Wharf, London, prescribed after a biomechanical assessment and made in our own on-site lab: bespoke devices built to offload pain and support the way you actually walk, run and stand.

Podiatrist casting a foot for custom orthotics in the in-house lab at a Canary Wharf, London clinic

The short answer

What this treatment is

Custom orthotics are prescription insoles made to your feet after a biomechanical and gait assessment, used to offload painful areas and control how the foot loads. We assess, cast or scan, and make many devices in our own on-site lab, so fit and adjustments are faster. Orthotics work best alongside footwear changes and exercise, not on their own.
An initial podiatry assessment at Canary Wharf Podiatry

What does a podiatrist do at your first appointment?

Your initial consultation covers a full history and a thorough examination of the skin, nails, circulation and, where relevant, the way you walk. We explain what we find in plain English and agree a working diagnosis with you.

Where it is safe to do so, treatment starts the same day, and you leave understanding the plan and the options in front of you.

Custom orthotics can help to:

Offload a painful area

Targeted support and cushioning can take pressure off a painful heel, forefoot or arch, so day-to-day walking hurts less.

Support flat feet and overpronation

Where the foot rolls in or the arch collapses, a prescribed device can help control that motion as part of a wider plan.

Ease plantar fasciitis

For stubborn heel pain, orthoses may reduce strain on the plantar fascia alongside stretching, strengthening and footwear changes.

Keep you moving in sport and at work

Sports-specific and everyday devices are built around your activity, from runners to people on their feet all day.

Get a device that actually fits

Because many insoles are made in our own lab, the fit is better and any adjustments after your review are quick.

Assessment

A full history and a thorough examination of the skin, nails, circulation and, where relevant, your gait. You leave with a working diagnosis you understand and a plan agreed with you, not handed to you.

Nail surgery under local anaesthetic at Canary Wharf Podiatry

Treatment

The care your foot problem actually needs, from painless skin and nail work to nail surgery under local anaesthetic, using sterile technique. Where a procedure carries real risk, we talk you through it and take consent first.

Advanced podiatry technology at Canary Wharf Podiatry

Advanced care

Where it helps, we draw on on-site MRI and X-ray, custom orthotics made in our own lab, and treatments such as laser and shockwave, so the right tool is matched to the right problem rather than a one-size-fits-all fix.

Ongoing foot-care maintenance at Canary Wharf Podiatry

Maintenance

We address the underlying cause, footwear, pressure or load, so the problem is less likely to return, and offer routine reviews and medical pedicures so your feet are looked after before there is a problem, not only once there is one.

"I wish I had known about you sooner." We hear it constantly. Feet are easy to ignore until they hurt, so we treat podiatry the way a dentist treats teeth: a regular check and a little maintenance keeps small problems from becoming big ones.

FAQs

What is the difference between custom orthotics and shop insoles?

Off-the-shelf insoles are generic cushioning. Custom orthotics are prescribed after a biomechanical assessment and made to your feet and diagnosis to change how the foot loads. For many mild problems a good off-the-shelf insole is enough, and we will tell you plainly if that is the case rather than upsell a custom device.

Do you really make the insoles yourselves?

Yes. We have an on-site lab, so many custom devices are manufactured in-house rather than sent to an external supplier. That usually means a better fit, a quicker turnaround, and much easier adjustments if the device needs tweaking after your review appointment, which is often the difference between comfort and frustration.

Do orthotics actually work?

For the right problem they can help offload pain and support function, but the evidence is mixed and they are not a cure on their own. They work best combined with footwear changes, load management and exercise. We assess whether an orthotic is likely to help you before recommending one, and say so if it is not.

How long do custom orthotics take to make?

Because many devices are made in our own lab, turnaround is often faster than clinics that outsource. Exact timing depends on the prescription and materials, which we confirm at your assessment. New devices also need a short break-in period, after which we review and fine-tune the fit for you.

Can orthotics help plantar fasciitis or flat feet?

They can be part of the plan. For plantar heel pain and symptomatic flat feet, orthoses may reduce strain and support the arch, but they sit alongside stretching, strengthening and footwear advice. We diagnose the cause first, because not all heel pain or flat feet need an orthotic to improve.
